What does it take to be a real man? This is an age-old question. For some men, their fulfillment comes from their job or family. Other men might define manhood by qualities like courage, resilience and wisdom. Being a man may look different across various regions and cultures, but everyone would likely agree that manhood is about strength of body, mind or character. Men naturally lead by example, sacrifice for those they love, and compete to be the very best.
This year, Men’s Health Week is June 13-19. Stop Colon Cancer Now believes that men should make their health a top priority, and this begins by getting a colonoscopy. So, I guess you could say that we think a colon screening is the true making of a man. Guys, if you are taking a step forward to get a colonoscopy, you are:
- Leading by example. When you schedule a colonoscopy, you are setting a precedent that preventative screenings are valuable, and your loved ones will often follow your example.
- Sacrificing for those you love. Let’s face it. Colonoscopies are not fun, but necessary to save lives. A small sacrifice of a bowel prep and colon exam is a gift of love to your family.
- Competing to be the best. When you are screened and get the clean bill of health, you can be your very best and healthiest self!
Just in time for Men’s Health Week, we’d like to introduce you to one of the manliest men we could find. John Grant not only chose to schedule a colonoscopy at the age of 50, but he recorded the chronicles of his colonoscopy journey in a 5-part series called Keeping up with the Kolonoscopy. In a humorous parody of Keeping Up with the Kardashians, the Grant family encourages John throughout each step of John’s colonoscopy and ultimate goal of being colon cancer-free. This is true manhood! Watch the whole series and be inspired to start your own journey toward total wellness and becoming a “Real Man.”
